Erebuni was founded in 782 BCE by Argishti I. His famous inscription states: "By the greatness of the god Khaldi, Argishti, son of Menua, built this powerful fortress and named it the city of Erebuni, for the might of the land of Biainili, to instill fear in the enemy countries. Argishti says: the land was barren, and here I accomplished deeds by the greatness of the mighty god Khaldi. Argishti, son of Menua, powerful king, king of the land of Biainili, lord of the city of Tushpa."
